Trop Trop Stylish…

The following musical tale of the artistic life, so so so fancy, comically and most satirically pinpoints the saddest and rather tragic aspect of the current scene… at least part of it.

The irony couldn’t be more truthful, hence hardcore. The colourful, friendly but so very superior lifestyle of the daydreaming and cappuccino-drinking Mr. DJ, is composed by the only preoccupation of being part of The click and pose as an avant-garde record player. It’s ridiculously hilarious.

So if it’s all about popularity, playing unknown stuff from Germany (?), life-long complicity with fellow bohemians, and a constant struggle of being the source of everything that will become cool… well, then we’re completely out, in other words: not very “pluggé”.

It’s no surprise that Numéro# are from Montreal, but since it’s been mixed a few times, there must be some artists self-secure enough to joke about their own milieu… and that we like very much. Plus some joyful music doesn’t hurt of course.

And so to balance things up, posting non-serious music with a seriously gorgeous lady, there’s an urgent need to do the opposite. Teenage Bad Girl’s recent Cocotte Album includes a remix of Yuksek that caught our frog-ears. How unusual! Might not be the most impressive track ever made, but the single 2′:30” to 3′:30” minute was well worth the detour.

1+2+3

If you’re into Prince’s leather jackets, Magnum PI’s hardcore jeans, Knight Rider’s speeding car, old school Casio digitals and still dreaming of flying a Testarossa in space listening to psychedelic 80’s keyboards, then Kavinsky’s your man. Well his new release, 1986, may be too much of a return to the future for some, but taken as a whole, the flipped-out modern-retro thing he’s got going on is rather amusing. Just take a look at Kavinsky’s Myspace and you’ll understand.

Kavinsky - Grand Canyon.mp3

And for those who aren’t modern Princes of Bel-Air, we’re over to quite a different musical style. Here’s a track from the latest release at Boxer from Matzak. (Yes another Frenchman, sorry for the damn patriotism btw, but we can’t hold ourselves anymore.)

Matzak - Girl in Water.mp3

And finally, if you haven’t heard it already, don’t miss out on a great track from the grandmaster himself, Anders Trentemoller. His single “Moan” released on Poker Flat is absolutely stunning. Music “so fresh and so clean” yet so mystic, it’s worthy of a philharmonic orchestra at it’s best.

Big Pimpin à la Française

Without going France All Over Your Asses and display political content that is most absurdly dealt with somewhere else, there’s a sweet comic farce some “representatives” unconsciously broadcast on a daily basis. Our good old teddy-bear for president might be one of the few grand barbarians that just keeps his burlesque theatre going on and apparently would give Puff Daddy quite a lesson on the meaning of Big Pimping:

Official expenses for random purposes:

- Wine: 250 000 € /year
- Cars and parking: 2 Million €/year
- Homeparties @ l’Elysée: 475 000 €/year (… booking: Bob Sinclar and Ed-Banger?)
- Housing maintenance: 4,8 Million €/year
- Communications: 4 Million €/year
- Stamps: 500 000 €/year
- Charity from the 1st lady, Bernadette “ma biche” Chirac: 300 000€/year
- Staff of 91 persons: 14 Million €/year + bonus: 7 Million€/year

Just love to see how sacred the pinard is with the masses of food, how nice it is to pile up shitty cars (Velsatis and Citroëns), how preciously the silver is being polished every single hour, and how much a talented cleaning lady makes working for Monsieur Le President des Bons Vivants. The irony of it all is so well known and commonly accepted, it has become a French cultural trait to be literally taxfucked in the ass and laugh about it. Oh oui c’est bon and we love it too!

Knowing the farewell party won’t be a greedy one and since we’re already missing Ze Jacques so much, we have prepared some brutal tunes to play in the Château de Versailles or wherever your going to give that legendary goodbye-orgy-party:

Served Up-front

If these days are all about straightforward consumption, effectiveness and quantity, we’ll join the party with reticence this time, adding some quality scarce resources of our own and deliver it up-front.

Party above: The gift from God is Anine Bing, a Swedish top-model who, for some totally inexplicable reason, used to be with the football player Anders Svensson.

Party below: A confusingly entitled but all so fine minimalen mix by Jeff Bennett:

Digitalism Mixed by Jeff Bennett.mp3

Tracklist:
01 Traffic Signs - Back On Crack
02 Jeff Bennett - Resemblance
03 Williams-The Shivering (Romboy & Bodzin Remix)
04 Diringer - Topolino

11 Amox & Atle - A Witch’s Kiss (Ink And Needle Remix)

And for the stressed-out corporate machines that can’t find the time to listen to the whole mix, we picked out two good quickies. It might be hard on the nerves but at least the never-ending run could go faster:

Turn, Bend, Bounce

“Here comes the highest sensation…” :

Emmon – Rock d’Amour - Patrick Fiske Remix.mp3

Posting more dancing tunes for the weekend seems to have unconsciously developed to some kind of habit of ours. Well today won’t be an exception. After all, the neighbours would be very worried if the weekly living-room-mini-club of yours isn’t open for once.

Konstruction is a kicking duo from Stockholm composed by Patrick Fiske and BB-Hinke. Yes, they’re the ones doing us the favour of teasing our explosive-beat-pumping-addiction this time. Disappointed as we were last week when some amateurs of party-planners managed to cancel their gig, we’ll have to take matters into our own hands and make those p-fucking-poopers understand what we’ve missed out on.

Anyway they’ve already made many tasty kits of tits & asses bounce like hell on Stocktowns dancefloors. Upcoming releases are on their way and we can’t wait.

Don’t hassle the Hoff

Although we’re all true fans of B-list celebrities, changing the world doesn’t necessarily mean poisoning it by singing “I’ve been looking for freedom” live in Berlin or saving it by running after bad guys on the beaches of Malibu. But you still have to value the amazingly horrible contributions of David Hasselhoff. We came across a very interesting interview with him commenting on Baywatch and his role as Mitch. Here’s a rather disturbing excerpt:

“I wanted to play around with the format, really tear it to pieces and shake it up. For example, if Mitch saves someone from drowning, and that person then goes out and releases a virus that kills a million people. Imagine the moral implications of that.”

“Getting in shape for this role, which is incredibly demanding, vocally, has been a lot of hard work, but I’m nailing it. I’m even kind of, at times, blowing my own mind, because I am even able to talk right now.”
Yeah, what a star! So here’s our modest contribution of today:

These two tracks are from the recent release The Unexpektheadz Chapter II: A Space Conquest Soundtrack, heavy stuff (Ekler’o'Shock MySpace) :

Computer Truck - Gamegirl Power feat. Adrenaaline.mp3 / Buy the album!

Second up, The Toxic Avenger. Thought the track “Saloperie de minilmale” would
be fun to post even though the sound quality isn’t optimal:

Provoking Hemoglobin

Coming up this week-end in southern Siberia (local-PR oblige): Dibaba and Dada Life are introducing a new venue called Discobedience at Smålands Nation before upgrading a notch to the Watergate on April 20th. Hopefully the arrival of these young Swedish talents will stir things up a bit over here.

Dada Life - Big Time - Dibaba Remix.mp3

In addition to the local-redneck-news, we’ve come across some new hemoglobin-provoking music that must be posted under any circumstances. Kerowack’s wild style never ceases to impress, this time merging loads of influences. The enclosed track tastefully and almost deliriously seeks for combinations. Put it this way: It’s dope…
